The Muse is a perfect go-to for any occasion. Express your creativity and change her up and down depending on the fabric used. Here we show prairie feel using 1970s vintage linen patched together.

We have also wiped her up in velvet and added a frill for a completely different look! This dress spans most body shapes and generations… Timeless.

We have included an elbow-length frill and hem frill if you note on the velvet one we have embellished using a pleated ribbon trim. The sleeve head is a small puff. 

Where will the inspiration she creates take you? Will you amp up her 1970s style with 70s print fabrics, make her hard-wearing in denim or cool and effortless in linen or simple cotton? If the mood takes, take her dancing in velvet or to a gallery opening in brocade.

Dressmaking fabric is typically sold in two widths, 110cm and 137cm, the length of fabric you will need for this pattern will depend on the width that the fabric you chose is sold in.

My favourite dress

This pattern was a big step up for me, as I'd only made simple unfitted dresses before. Once I learned how to do bust adjustments, to make sure I had a bodice that fits my non-standard (!) shape, I love the dresses I've made with it, and I have more planned. It's been a great starting point for adaptations, so that each dress looks different (puffless sleeves, bigger sleeve frill, no frill, fuller skirt, beading). The pattern is easy to follow for a beginner, and Caroline took the time to give me advice and encouragement when I emailed her a few newbie questions. It's the best, most flattering pattern I've ever used.

Beautiful dress

Have made a toile and altered the bodice slightly. Was so eager to see a different style on me and it is so slimming. Looking forward to making more in different fabrics. Changed the zip to te side seam too. It’s so easy to wear.

Line drawing

The line drawing didn't show a front and back so I thought it had darts at the front and princess seams at the back. The fabric in the photos is very busy so I couldn't work it out. I wouldn't have bought it if I had all the info from conventional line drawing and description. It's a good pattern though, and making up well.
